Karen I. Maldonado, MSPC, LPC

Director of Counseling

Licensed Minister

In 2013, I moved to North Carolina from Florida where I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I am a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor. I was invited to The Counseling Center in January of 2013 where I am the Director of Counseling, after having worked at Hope Counseling Centers in Lakeland, Florida since 2008. I do biblically-based, psychologically-informed counseling for couples, individuals, families and groups facing challenges in relationships and in life. I also counsel children and use age appropriate interventions. I have counseled couples in the church since 1995 with my husband, Gonzalo (Zal) Maldonado, who is also a licensed Assemblies of God minister.

Eric Hoyme, MA, LPC

Trauma Therapist (EMDR Certified)

Do events from your past get in the way of your daily life? Do you find that old emotions pop up in situations where they don’t belong? Does your body “overreact” when you should feel safe? My name is Eric Hoyme and I am a Trauma Therapist. In my practice of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a research-based treatment for trauma and PTSD, I have witnessed people get free of their past so that they can enjoy their lives in the present and not worry about the future. My specialty is helping people to unload the old baggage that gets in the way of everyday life. I consider the work I do to be a calling and treat it with reverence. I have been in practice for 9 years and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in North Carolina and Georgia. I look forward to working with you!

Eric Hoyme, MA, LPC has been in practice since 2006 and completed his training at Richmont Graduate University, where he studied Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the intersection between spiritual issues and psychotherapy. He has worked in crisis stabilization hospitals and residential substance abuse treatment centers.
